From the comparatively carefree but congested waters of the Solent to the howling, confused maelstrom that can be the Southern Ocean, Solent Sewing Machines have been safeguarding sailors for almost half a century.
Trusted by sailmakers and seafarers alike, our comprehensive range of rugged sail locker-stowable and industrial sewing machines have not only saved lives through effective emergency repairs in the most appalling conditions, but on a daily basis also power the sailmaking industry across both hemispheres.
A family business, currently in its fourth generation and run by husband and wife duo Melanie and Ian Jenkins, Solent Sewing & Welding has been in the business of industrial sewing and fabric handling for nearly 50 years. Our in-depth experience of manufacturing attachments and modifying sewing machines with different arm lengths and configurations began after collaborating with Jentschmann of Zurich in developing and supplying long arm machines throughout the world. After 15 years, Solent then took over the complete production of the Jentschmann range.
Ian Jenkins, MD of our third generation firm said; "This is a world in which the irresistible 'call of the running tide' can lead to lives hanging quite literally by a thread. Our marine heritage combined with our dedication to innovation, reliability and precision, makes Solent Sewing Machines a sheet anchor upon which everyone from sailmakers to day skippers and offshore racers can rely."
Augmenting our own extensive range of sewing and heat bonding machines, we also supply models from Seiko, PFAFF and Dürkopp Adler.
"Equally impressive are our offerings to other industries. Our Miller Weldmaster bonding machines for example are the fastest on the market, precision heat sealing everything from boat tarps to inflatables, marquees and tarpaulins, lorry curtains and the digital sign making market, all in the blink of an eye."
"We found that the wide and super-wide format sign making industry had a need for faster machinery and the Miller Weldmaster range offered the ideal solution."
Solent is leading from the front with products from the likes of Spanish manufacturer PLASTgrommet that offer a wide range of setting systems from manual, hand-held's to fully automatic machines. As there is a huge demand for recyclable banners, we offer recyclable, plastic eyelets that mean that for those printing onto PP or PE media; they can be recycled together rather than having to separate them.
In addition, Melanie and Ian realise that Solent's success relies on tailor-matching customers complete requirements. "We will be releasing a new range of 3 machines specifically for the marine market in late 2010 and we have new innovations planned for the sign market in 2011. We realise that to stay ahead in the supply of sewing and welding machines it is necessary to offer custom solutions and service that our competitors are unable or unwilling to provide," says Ian. "Being able to offer welding solutions for recyclable (PE) and traditionally non-weldables using heat activated tape is an example of how we are pushing forward into the future."
"But above all, we set ourselves the target of providing the highest possible standards of customer service. Most of our customers have been with us for years and we have seen their businesses grow and prosper by helping all we can and going that extra mile."
